The IMP table

The IMP table turns the score difference between two tables into IMPs (International Match Points): a difference of 20 to 40 points is 1 IMP, and 4,000 or more is 24 IMPs.

IMPs are used in team matches: the same board is played at two tables, and the difference counts. The scale makes a big swing count for more, but not without limit. VosBridge uses it when you look back at your boards: you see in IMPs how you did against the best possible result and against the bots at another table.

Examples

Example 1: one more game

Your hand (12 points)

You open 1♠ and reach 4♠ vulnerable. You make 10 tricks: 620. At the other table they stop in 2♠ and also make 10 tricks: 170. The difference is 450: 10 IMPs to you.

Example 2: an overtrick

Your hand (14 points)

You open 1NT and partner raises to 3NT. You make 10 tricks not vulnerable: 430. At the other table they make 9: 400. The difference is 30: 1 IMP. At IMPs the contract matters most, an overtrick much less.

Common mistakes

Today's boards in VosBridge are not scored in IMPs but like a pairs event: on each board you get 2 points for every player who did worse. See also: Bridge scoring
